The skin I'm In by Sharon G. Flake ( Coming of age) part 1

The book that I’ve been reading is called The Skin I’m in. the character in this book thinks she is a freak. She has a way of attracting strange characters. They draw to her like someone stuck a note on her forehead saying losers wanted here. She goes to McClenton Middle school. Her name is Maleeka.

Miss Saunders is Maleekas teacher. She wears a dark purple suit and a starched white shirt with matching purple buttons. She tells Maleeka that her skin is pretty like a blue-black sky after it has rained. She tells Maleeka that the line came from her favorite poem.

John-john is the smallest fifth grader in the world. John-john says to Maleeka the he doesn’t see any pretty just a whole lot of black. He starts singing a rap song. “Maleeka, Maleeka baboom, boom, boom, but she is so black, Baboom boom, boom, we just can’t see her

Tai is the math teacher. She stands at the blackboard with her leg leaning on the other like a flamingo. She does Yoga and hums like a heater on the blink. Tai looks funny standing next to Miss Saunders because Miss Sounder is six feet tall. Tai is short with long hair and two sets of silver hoops earring

Caleb Jamaal Assamis is the smartest in school. He is friendly. He started hanging out with Maleeka and caused her trouble. He starred her half of the school year. He told Maleeka that he saw something different in her. He told her that she was pretty and liked her sweet coco brown skin. He wrote her poems and letters. He even walked her to class.

Malcolm Moore is fine. He has long straight hair. His skin color is butterscotch milkshake. He has gray, sad eyes. His dad is white and his mother is Black.
